Brave Star Books, an imprint of Orion Lakes Books, cares about your family's privacy. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices. It works alongside our Terms of Service.

What we collect

• The photo you upload of your child, used to illustrate your book.
• Book detailsyou enter: your child's first name, age, girl/boy, and an optional dedication.
• Order & contact information: your email and shipping address.
• Payment information: handled directly by Stripe. We receive a confirmation, not your full card number.
• Website & device data: basic analytics and advertising data (see Cookies & the Meta Pixel below).

A note about children's information

Our service is intended for adults (parents, guardians, and gift-givers). A child's photo and first name are provided to us by an adult who confirms they have the right and consent to share them. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children, and the details we receive are used only to create the keepsake book that adult ordered.

Face analysis (what actually happens to the photo)

Creating your book involves automated analysis of your child's face from the photo you upload: our systems compare each illustrated page against the photo to check the likeness (face shape, hair, eyes, skin tone, apparent age) so the finished book actually looks like your child. This analysis is used only to create and quality-check your book. We do not use it to identify anyone, we do not build a face database, we never sell or share it for advertising, and the photo and any analysis of it are deleted along with your photo (see retention below, and your right to request deletion at any time). You give explicit consent to this processing at upload, and we store the date and version of the consent text you agreed to.

How we use your information

• To illustrate, produce, print, and ship your personalized book.
• To process your payment and send you order updates.
• To provide support and honor our reprint/guarantee commitments.
• To improve our website and, if you opt in, to send you offers.

We never sell your photo or your child's information, and we never use your photo to train AI models.

Who we share it with (service providers)

We share data only with the partners that help us run the service:

• Supabase: secure storage of your photo, order, and book data.
• Our illustration provider (Google's paid Gemini API): your photo is sent to generate the artwork and check the likeness. We use the paid, business tier that does not train on your images.
• Stripe: to process payments securely.
• Our print & fulfillment partner: to print and ship your book to you.
• Vercel: website hosting.
• Meta: advertising and measurement, as described below.

Cookies & the Meta Pixel

Our site uses cookies and the Meta Pixel (a small piece of code from Facebook/Instagram) to understand how visitors use the site, measure our ads, and show relevant ads to people who have visited us. This may involve sharing limited activity (such as pages viewed or a purchase) with Meta. You can control ad tracking through your browser settings and your Meta ad preferences.

How long we keep your photo

We keep your uploaded photo only as long as needed to create your book and handle any reprint or redo request: it is automatically deleted 90 days after your order is complete (unless you tick “keep this photo on file” at upload, or have an active monthly subscription, in which case we keep it until you ask us to delete it or the subscription ends), and a photo from an order that was never completed is deleted after 14 days. The finished book pages stay in your library. You can ask us to delete your photo sooner at any time and we will do so unless we are required to keep order records for legal or accounting reasons.

Security

We use reputable providers and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your family's data safe.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your information, and you can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in those emails. To make any request, email us at support@bravestarbooks.com.

We may update this policy; the “last updated” date shows the current version.
